This squadron was formed in March 1942 at Townsville, and went to New Guinea within two weeks, so desperate was the war situation at the time. Very little time for training was possible, and some pilots had only ten hours on Kittyhawks when they went into action. With no proper warning system or control, the Kittyhawks were always at a height disadvantage. The issued gunsight constantly failed and was replaced by one made locally, of water pipe. 75 Squadron flew alone against the experienced Zero pilots of the Imperial Japanese Navy Tainan Kokkutai in the defence of Port Moresby for 44 days, before returning to Australia, with only one Kittyhawk available. 75 Squadron returned to take part in the decisive action at Milne Bay, the first Japanese defeat of the war, and then flew Kittyhawks in the SWPA to the end of the war.

The squadron was deployed to Malta, with RAF Vampires, flew with NATO forces, and took part in the Coronation Flypast over London as part of the celebrations when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned. 75 Squadron flew Meteors, Sabres and Mirages in in Australia and Malaysia, and took part in many exercises against Allied air forces. Today 75 Squadron is at Tindal, NT, with F/A-18 Hornets.

Throughout the book, the part played by the dedicated groundcrew is included, and there are many anecdotes from the 60 years of 75 Squadron's life and times.

The book is hardcover, with dustjacket, 190x270mm, 222 pages, 4 appendices, 65 photos, 4 maps, and includes 8 full colour side views of aircraft by artist Juanita Franzi.

These are available separately, in A3 size, for framing.

Hardcover, dustjacket, 190x270mm, 222 pages, 52 personal photos.
